‘Yummy World’ is a 300 track orchestra/electronic piece based on Justin Bieber’s ‘Yummy’. The melodic structure of the piece revolves around Bieber’s various melodic fragments, which are broken up into 12 motivs, each one having a different ethno/ cultural accompaniment (thus the title ‘Yummy World’). The effect is a backdrop of etho/jazz fusion cacophony, while in the foreground, the music moves to its’ logical conclusion.
The form is a 7 movement variation structure, each movement’s tempos exponential increasing in double time or half time, depending if it’s becoming gradually faster or slower. The clock tempo of each movement is always a dotted note division of the previous tempo. The last movement recapitulates the tonic tempo, as well as the central theme.
My main musical influences for this piece are Tigran Hamasyan and Jesus Molina, mostly for their heavily metered writing and playing, within an innovative harmonic language. Also Jacob Collier for the intense colour of his very dense orchestrations. Other Influences are from electronica which include Lightbath and Max Cooper who do very colourful productions. Finally, because of too much lockdown YouTube viewing, I was influenced by the structurally hyper condensed scores from 40/50s film noir (not dissimilar to cartoon music).
